What is the IPL?
The Indian Premier League is the world's biggest T20 cricket league. Launched by the BCCI in 2008, it brings together ten city-based franchises, the best Indian talent and the biggest international stars for two months of high-intensity cricket every summer.
Every season runs to a tight format: a double round-robin league stage followed by a four-match playoff. With packed stadiums, record broadcast audiences and last-ball finishes, the IPL has become the most-watched cricket property on the planet.

How the Season Works
League stage
Every team plays 14 matches: home and away against five sides, and once against the other four. Two points for a win, one for a no-result.
Qualifier 1
The top two teams on the table meet. The winner books a place in the final straight away.
Eliminator
Third plays fourth. Lose here and the season is over.
Qualifier 2
The loser of Qualifier 1 gets a second chance against the Eliminator winner for the last spot in the final.
The Final
One night, one trophy. The champion also earns the biggest share of the prize pool.
